Full Description
This course is designed for officers who have had more than a three year break in LEN service or are transferring in from another state and have successfully completed a basic academy that meets the Peace Officers Processional Standards Act. Otherwise, you are not eligible to take this course.  Basic Officer Skills will cover high liability and critical areas of law enforcement. The course includes firearms, vehicle operations and defensive tactics.  This course is intended as a refresher for previously trained law enforcement officers.

The learning objectives for this course will cover basic skills needed by peace officers including defensive driving, basic firearms, defensive tactics and traffic stops.  Students are required to meet the minimum requirements of the firearms and vehicle operations qualification courses and a final written exam.

Equipment needed: Students are required to bring a lap top computer capable of operating the Power Point program, a department issued police vehicle equipped with emergency lights and siren, department approved duty equipment to include; duty pistol, holster, magazine pouches, 3 pistol magazines or 2 speed loaders, cleaning equipment, baseball cap or wide brimmed hat, handcuffs, handcuff pouch, handcuff keys, mouth guard and groin protection and body armor. DOCJT WILL NOT SUPPLY VEHICLES.
